With ever more emphaasis on safety at work and in the home, public and employees alike are more aware than ever of living and working in working in a safe environment.

Since Part P of the building regulations came into effect the correct emphasis has been on electrical contractors to have all electrical works to BS: 7671, the electrical regulations. Also with the revised 2008 17th edition of the regulations coming into force there is even more push on safety of electrical installations.

But how do you know if an existing electrical installation is safe? The answer is a Periodic Inspection Report. This is a full inspection of an existing system wth a BS: 7671 report form including a list of items that are dangerous, or potentially so, or are not per the regulation, and recommendations for the upgrading of any points found.

It is stated that a domestic premises be minimally tested every 10 years or change of occupancy, and for commercial buildings every 5 years or change of occupancy.
